US originated Pet coke dominated imports, however, weakening Saudi Arabian Pet coke prices have attracted Indian buyers to choose the same over conventional sources.
SteelMint assessed that India imported about 1 MnT of Pet coke in Aug’15 along with other grades, highest since 2013 (SteelMint data). Imported Pet coke is basically used in Indian cement and ferro industry. Pet coke import in India has registered growth of about 11% M-o-M. Whereas, the import has gone up by about 49% Y-o-Y.

Ultra Tech Cement, the giant in Indian cement industry, imported highest quantity of Pet coke in the month, accounting for about 11% of total Pet coke import. Kandla Port in West Coast of India received about 0.2 MnT of Pet coke in Aug’15, highest among all Indian ports.
It should be noted that India, one of the major global Pet coke importers, imported about 5.8 MnT in FY15, registering a growth in import by about 115% compared to FY14. SteelMint assessed that India has already imported 3.7 MnT of Pet coke in FY16 (till Aug’15).
