Sponge Makers Prefer Screened Ore over Crushed Ore of Odisha Origin

Looking at the cost effectiveness and volatile market, sponge manufacturers are seen preferring screened ore over crushed ore. The bookings for screened ore have moved up in last few days.

Few Odisha miners had cut iron ore prices in 2nd week of Aug’15 upto INR 400/MT to increase sales. However, sources say that demand of screened ore is better compared to that of crushed ore. Trade sources mentioned screened 10-30 mm is traded at INR 2,550-2,650/MT ex mines and quite a good quantity was booked at this price (approx 10-12 rakes were booked by Chhattisgarh based sponge manufacturer.

Offers for 10-30 mm from KJS Ahluwalia mines is at INR 2,800/MT and Kaypee Enterprises is at INR 2,600/MT; however, miners did not confirm any offer and booking at this rate. A newly started benefication plant was heard to offer screened ore of size 5-25 mm at INR 3,085/MT Fe 63% (loaded to wagon from siding Nayagarh, Odisha).
