Tata Steel, which has already announced the timeline for commissioning of its 6 MnT pa steel at Odisha’s Kalinganagar, is planning to produce a range of high grade flat products. The company is targeting several new sectors such as defense equipment, power equipment, the aviation sector, lifting and excavation, ship building and automobiles. Though, these sectors are not new in India, entry of Indian private players has been limited due to absence of required technology and expertise.
“We have planned to produce high grade flat products. We are targeting new sectors like defense, energy and power equipment, lifting and excavation, aviation and automobile etc. Moreover, apart from the traditional sectors like infrastructure and white good sector”, said Mr. Rajeev Kumar, Vice-President (operations), Tata Steel Kalinga Nagar project.
It is to be noted that Tata Steel is on the way to commission its Kalinganagar project by December this year and has already started feeding coking coal to its coke oven battery from today. In the first phase, the plant capacity will be 3 MnT pa and would produce Hot Rolled Coil (HRC), Cold Rolled Close Annealed Coils (CRCAC), Galvnised Coil etc.
The company will invest around INR 250 bn in the first phase of 3 MnT pa capacity plant and has already invested more than INR 220 bn.
