Auction Updates: Jaypee Cement Wins Majra Coal Block

On the 3rd day of coal block auction, companies such as JK Lakshmi, Crest Steel & Power, Emami Cement and Grace Industries were in the race for Majra block.

On 13 Aug’15, the ministry has ended its 3rd day of coal block auction successfully and sold Majra coal block in Maharashtra. The mine has bagged by Jaypee Cement at INR 1,230/MT on floor price of INR 800/MT. The mine was earlier allotted to Gondwana Ispat. The government had reserved the Majra block for non-regulated sector.

In this auction, the block was most preferred by the companies like Crest Steel & Power, Emami Cement, Grace Industries etc as having total extractable reserves of about 14.92 MnT in Maharashtra.

Till date, total three mines had been auctioned by the government with earnings of about INR 43.64 bn. All three auctioned blocks namely Marki Mangli I, Majra and Bhaskarpara; two from Maharashtra and one from Chhattisgarh, were received by Top Worth Urja & Metals, Jaypee Cement and Crest Steel &Power respectively.

The block Parbatpur Central in Jharkhand that was also put under hammer for the same date was withdrawn from the process as the block contains gases.
