Ardent Steel and Pro minerals has planned to set up Pellet plant.
The Odisha government today approved the expansion plans of Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd (BPSL) and Aditya Birla Group-owned, Utkal Alumina. The government has also cleared two more proposals in the steel sector— the pelletisation plants proposed by Ardent Steel and Pro Minerals.
BPSL has proposed to expand steel making capacity at its Thelkoli plant under Rengali tehsil near Sambalpur from 2.8 MnT pa to 5.5 MnT pa. The expansion plan is estimated to INR 48.37 bn to the steelmaker.
“The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) has approved the expansion plan and recommended it to the High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA). The expansion is slated to generate additional employment for 998 people”, said Kalyan Mohanty, general manager of state owned Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Ltd (IPICOL).
The SLSWCA also approval the expansion of Utkal Alumina to ramp up capacity of its alumina refining unit at Daruguda near Rayagada to 1.5 MnT pa from the existing 1 MnT pa. The entire cost of the refinery is INR 75.63 bn. This expansion plan has also been referred to HLCA. The SLSWCA headed by the state chief secretary is empowered to approve investment proposals of up to INR 10 bn. While, proposals beyond this investment figure needs the approval of HLCA chaired by the chief minister.
Ardent Steel has proposed to pump in INR 40.31 bn to expand pellet plant capacity from 0.6 MnT pa to 1.8 MnT pa at Phuljhar in Keonjhar district. The expansion is expected to generate incremental employment for 1390 people.
Similarly, Pro Minerals is keen to establish 1 MnT pa pellet plant at Basantpur in Keonjhar district at an investment of INR 2.38 bn. The pellet unit is tipped to create direct employment for 192 persons. The company already has a beneficiation plant at that location.
