Iron ore imports to India have fallen from 917,455 MT in May’15 to 891,245 MT in June’15.
India imported 891,245 MT iron ore in June’15 against 917,455 MT in May’15. Essar Steel was the largest importer at 194,745 MT followed by JSW Steel at 163,400 MT. Other iron ore importers this month were Kamachi Group, Pushpit Steels and Shraddha Ispat.
About 78% (696,500 MT) of iron ore was imported from South Africa and the remaining was from Australia and Brazil.

The reason behind reduction in imports can be attributed to the following reasons – price cut by Odisha based merchant miners and increased iron ore production resulting from extended EC limits and mining resumption. Lump prices in Odisha have fallen by INR 200-350/MT.
India imported 15.1 MnT iron ore last fiscal which is expected to come down to 6-7 MnT in this fiscal.
Pellet imports to India remain stable in June’15
Similar to May’15, only a single pellet import shipment was noticed in June’15. Jindal Steel & Power imported 52,600 MT pellets from Bahrain in June’15 via vessel named Josco Taizhou. In May’15, the company imported 52,830 MT pellets from Saudi Arabia.
