Coal India subsidiary, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) is eyeing to boost its coal production by 14% to 150 MnT in the current financial year, said union coal secretary, Anil Swaroop. In the last financial year i.e. FY15, the coal PSU had produced about 120 MnT of coal.
He was speaking to the media after his meeting with Odisha chief secretary G C Pati on Thursday. He said that there will not be any shortage of coal in any power plant in the country this year. The total coal production of CIL across the country was 494 MnT last year.
Reviewing the progress of Jharsuguda-Barpali railway line, he expressed his satisfaction over the progress and said the single line of the railway project is expected to be completed by June, 2016. The centre has targeted to evacuate additional 20 MnT coal through the route to various industrial sources.
Reviewing the coal blocks issues of MCL, Odisha chief secretary G C Pati said the bottlenecks of MCL’s 11 projects that include land acquisition, rehabilitation and forest clearance were discussed.
