CIL achieves 93% of its production target during April-November

Coal India has achieved 93% of its total output target
during April-November 2012, the nodal Coal Ministry said in a statement which
indicates a growth of 6.4 % over the equivalent period of the previous
year.

Production target for 2012-13 has been set 7 % higher at
578.10 million tons (mt) against the actual production of about 540 mt in
2011-12.

“Compared to this, the actual production during
April-November 2012 has been 330.61 mt, which is about 93 % of the
target for this period,” the statement reported.

On the other hand, coal offtake during April-November, 2012
has been nearly 360 mt reaching 95 % of the target showing a growth of 7.8 % over
the corresponding period of the previous year.

The target for coal offtake for 2012-13 has been set at
585.60 mt.

The Government said that coal offtake by power producers
during April-November from Coal India Ltd and Singareni Collieries Co. Ltd has
been about 237 mt indicating an achievement of 92 % of the target and a growth
of 12 % over the matching period of the previous year.

The Government has given its go-ahead to Neyveli Lignite
Corporation to seal a joint venture with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan
Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) a completely owned state thermal power utility for
setting up a coal-based thermal power plant -1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power
Plant – in Uttar Pradesh.

The project is expected to cost Rs 14,858 crore. The
investment proposal is under the consideration of Government.
