JSW’s Crude Steel Output Up by 2% in Apr’15

JSW Steel’s crude steel production surged by 2%, whereas, long steel production declined by 19% in April.

JSW Steel, having an installed capacity of 14.5 MnT of crude steel, increased its output by 2% to 1.01 MnT in the month of April. In Apr’14, the steelmaker had produced 990,000 MT of crude steel.

On the flip side, long steel production has registered a decline of 19% to 133,000 MT in Apr’15 against 164,000 MT in Apr’14. In addition, flat steel production has fallen slightly by 1% to 765,000 MT in the month as compared to 776,000 MT a year earlier.

Sluggish domestic demand and rise in import from China, Russia and Korea have exerted pressure on steel realizations. As a result, Indian steel prices have decreased by 26% between Apr’14 and Mar’15. Contrastingly, realizations of JSW Steel fell by only 9% over the same period.
