India’s manganese ore imports fell 24% m-o-m to 0.28 million tonnes (mnt) in February 2023 compared to 0.39 mnt recorded in January 2023, as per data maintained with SteelMint.
However, data also reveals that import volumes moved in a narrow range over the previous three months, from November-December, 2022 till January 2023. This was mainly because domestic steel demand had looked up in this period and finished steel prices rose, especially over December 2022 and January 2023. The stable imports were supported by lesser domestic manganese ore production.
