India: Om Sairam Steels, Alloys Pvt Ltd bag Orahuri iron ore and manganese mine in Odisha auctions

The government of Odisha organised an auction for the Orahuri iron ore and manganese block on 21 March 2023. According to sources, Om Sairam Steels and Alloys Pvt. Ltd won the bid for this mine at a premium of 140.1% over the starting premium of 80.1%.

According to data released by the government of Odisha, the total area is 50.203 hectares (ha) for this block. There are 27 ha of mineralised land and 23.203 ha of non-mineralised land.

As per released data, the mine has 247,105.3 tonne of low-grade (fines) iron ore resources with an average grade of 49.91% Fe at 45% cut-off. There is no high-grade or lump ore resources. That apart, 9,223.6 tonne with a grade of 55.65% Fe and 237,881.7 tonne with a grade of 49.69% Fe. There are 7.18 million tonne of indicated manganese resources in this block, with an average grade of 21.39% Mn at a 10% cut-off.

Last week also the Odisha government auctioned two iron ore blocks – Kusumdihi Manganese and Iron Ore Block and Kendudihi North Iron Ore Block. According to sources, Rungta Mines won the Kendudihi North Iron Ore Block in the Bonai-Keonjhar belt. The company emerged as the preferred bidder for the block at a premium of 100%.

In the second block auction, Trustline Mining and Minerals won the Kusumdihi manganese and iron ore blocks also in the Bonai-Kendujhar belt. As per sources, the company emerged as the preferred bidder for Kusumdihi at a premium of 99.50%.
