Iran’s finished steel production increased by 11% in the first eleven months of the current Persian year (March, 2022-February, 2023), according to data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).
The country’s steel production volumes continued to remain strong as electricity consumption restrictions were better managed this year as against the corresponding period last year (CPLY) due to the coordination between the Ministry of Energy and the steel association.
- Total finished steel output stood at 20.04 million tonnes (mnt) in the period under review, of which production of long steel stood at 11.71 mnt (up 14%) and that of flat steel was at 8.33 mnt (up 8%).
- Semi-finished steel output stood at 27.72 mnt in the period under review, up 9% y-o-y. Billets and blooms accounted for 16.91 mnt of the total semis output, up 12% y-o-y, while slabs production increased by 6% y-o-y to 10.81 mnt.
- As per ISPA data, direct reduced iron (DRI) production stood at 28.88 mnt in the first eleven months of the Iranian year, an increase of 5% compared to the same period last year.
