The Odisha High Court has issued interim stay on the state government’s decision to cancel lease of 8 mines. The 8 mines are Odisha Manganese and Minerals, Ms Narayani and Sons, Avin Jain, Tarini Minerals, Kalinga Mining Corporation, Odisha Manganese Minerals, BD Pattnaik Minerals and OM & Mines.
While ordered the interim stay the High Court bench comprising of justices Indrajit Mohanty and Biswanath Rath Monday issued a show cause notice to the Odisha government. The next hearing of the case will be on 29 Jun’15.
Earlier on 29 Apr’15, the state government in its affidavit before the court, had informed that 18 mines were issued permissions for extension of lease, as per the MMDR (Amendment) act, 2015 and 8 mines were issued show cause notices for cancellation of lease. Against the order, 8 miners filed petitions in the Odisha High Court.
