Japan: Ferrous scrap exports rise by 33% m-o-m in Jan’23

  • Japan’s scrap exports recovered by 33% to 0.56 mnt in Jan’23 compared to 0.42 mnt in Dec’22, as per SteelMint’s data.
  • South Korea continued to be the largest importer at 0.30 mnt followed by Vietnam and Taiwan at 0.13 mnt and 0.03 mnt, respectively.
  • Japan’s scrap exports increased by 93% y-o-y as compared to 0.29 mnt in Jan’22, a major chunk being from South Korea and Vietnam.
