Odisha government today indicated that the stamp duty issue has almost been resolved with the mining lease holders and they are ready to sign lease deed (agreement) with the government.
According to sources in the mines directorate, as many as 10 lease holders (most of them are in the Koida circle) are likely to sign the supplementary lease agreement today and few others will sign tomorrow.
The government has granted extension to total 29 mining lease holders last month, as per the MMDR (Amendment) Act, 2015. However, the lease holders have been asked to get all the statutory clearances within 3 months. They were also asked to pay stamp duty. The government is aiming to collect INR 1,000 through collection of stamp duty. But, the miners were opposing this.
Yesterday, Odisha Steel & Mines Minister said that no supplementary lease deed would be signed without payment of the stamp-duty and the mining leases would be auctioned after the given period.
