India’s automobile production was recorded at 1.9 million units (MU) in January 2023, according to provisional data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) maintained by SteelMint. Production rose by 22% m-o-m compared to 1.56 MU recorded in December 2022.
Meanwhile, automobile sales grew 16% m-o-m to 1.61 MU in January compared to 1.39 MU a month ago.
Category-wise sales in January-
- Passenger vehicles: Sales stood at 0.3 MU, up 25% m-o-m. In December, sales were recorded at 0.24 MU.
- Two wheelers: Sales increased to 1.18 MU compared to 1.05 MU in the previous month.
- Three wheelers: Sales registered a 25% m-o-m growth to 0.05 MU as against 0.04 MU in December.
- Commercial vehicles: Commercial vehicles sales remained stable m-o-m at 0.08 MU.
Automobile output, sales in CY22
India’s total automobile production was recorded at 25.85 million units (MU) in calendar year 2022 (CY22. Production volume registered a 7.4% y-o-y growth compared to 24.06 MU in CY21.
Meanwhile, cumulative automobile sales rose by 12.2% y-o-y to 20.75 MU in CY22 compared to 18.49 MU in the previous year.
