Iron ore dispatch from NMDC’s Chhattisgarh mines fell by about 28% in the month of April 2015, according SteelMint’s analysis on Iron ore rake movements. (It is excluding dispatches by Essar through Slurry pipeline)
NMDC (National Mineral Development Corporation), India’s largest and state owned miner, with annual production of 31 MnT, had a significant fall in number of rakes dispatched from its Bailadila mines (which contributes over 65% of total production) in April 2015. Total 235 rakes were dispatched in April compared to 328 rakes during March 2015 (1 rake carries 3,900 MT Iron Ore).
RINL remains the largest buyer and it accounted for about 63% of total Iron ore dispatches from Bailadila mines, followed by JSW, Dolvi, with 11 rakes. JSW steel has resumed purchases from NMDC, Chhattisgarh mines after 6 months. It may be noted that NMDC has cut Iron ore prices up to 37% in last 3 months, in order to compete with cheaper imports.
Dispatches to Chhattisgarh based units fell to 72 rakes in Apr’15 against 100 in Mar’15, due to falling Sponge Iron prices and lower Pellet prices in domestic market.
There was no export as NMDC is yet to finalize long term agreement with Japan & Korea based Steel mills.
JSPL has emerged as a potential buyer for NMDC’s Iron ore. JSPL (Raigarh) bought 5 rakes in March and 7 rakes in April, where as JSPL Angul, bought 7 rakes in March but none in April’15.
