India: Coal-fired power plants not to be phased out until 2030 – CEA

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) of India advised all power utilities not to retire any coal-fired plants until 2030, rather carry out renovation and modernisation activities, if required. Earlier, the country had planned to shut down 81 coal-fired plants over the next four years. The objective of CEA advisory is to keep healthy fleet of power generation amid expected rise in electricity demand.
