Spot prices of thermal coal reaching to India from Indonesia
have seen marginal improvement in the prices due to demand from Chinese buyers
before Lunar New Year. However market for South African coal has remained firm
with unchanged prices.
Price for 3800 GAR and 4200 GAR (FOB South Kalimantan) is
hovering at around $34/MT and $41/MT with marginal increase in price, whereas
price for 6000 NAR (FOB Richards Bay) stands at $84/MT with unchanged offer
prices.
Freight charges for capesize vessel stands at $12/MT, on the
other hand Supramax vessel attracts a charge of $11/MT from Indonesia to East
Coast of India and $13/MT respectively to West Coast of India.
“Market for thermal coal is expected to decline temporarily
in the month of February due to Chinese New Year starting on Feb 9” said an
Importer based in Mumbai.
