Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores based in Karnataka has
resumed operations at its manganese mine in Bellary after a pause of 19-months,
said sources.
About a third of the freshly mined ore will be used in the
company’s own ferroalloys production, while the balance will be sold through
auctions conducted by state-owned trading firm MSTC.
Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores in Bellary had halted
mining operations in July 2011 when the Karnataka state government banned
mining, the company said.
It was only late last month that it secured permission from
the Indian Supreme Court to resume mining at Bellary. However, production quantity
will be capped at 1,87,400 MT/year of manganese ore.
Previously it had a mining permit of 6,00,000 MT/year. Its iron
ore production is now similarly capped at 740,000 mt/year as against 1.6
million mt/year previously, the official sources said.
