Australia’s AGL Energy to shut down Loy Yang A power station ahead of schedule

Australia’s major power company AGL Energy is set to shut its Loy Yang A Power Station in 2035, a decade earlier than the previous target date of 2045. The plant is one of AGL’s three coal-fired plants, generating 2.2 gigawatts of power and covers about 30% of the electricity demands of the state, which includes Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city.
