The Ministry of Steel has extended the deadline for BIS certification of ferro silicon plants by six months, from 23 Oct’22 to 23 Jan’23, due to inspection delays caused by foreign travel restrictions. India is reliant on ferro silicon imports, the majority of which come from Bhutan. Bhutan accounted for 85,443 t (51%) of ferro silicon imports in Jan-Sep CY22, followed by China (29%) and Malaysia (5%).
