The world’s largest base metals producer, China, has recently released non-ferrous (copper) recyclable commodity export and import figures for September 2022. Exports have increased by 5% over the previous month and imports witnessed marginal rise by 1% in Sept as against aug 2022, as per customs data.
During the month, China’s copper exports were recorded at 67,059 t including, scrap, semi-finished, finished long and finished flat products, rose 5% m-o-m from 63,982 t in August.
While imports was (including ores, scrap, semi-finished, finished long and finished flat products) was recorded at 295,0368 t, a slight rise of 1% m-o-m as against 292,2683 t in Aug’22.
Break-up of exports
Finished flats export volumes were the highest at 44,964 t, down 2% m-o-m, followed by semi-finish at 14,068 t (up 44%), finish long at 8,028 t (down 3.42%), on the month.
The finished flats segment comprised 67% of overall exports followed by semi finished at 21%, finished long at 12%.
Break-up of imports
Copper ores import volumes were the highest at 227,3426 t, rise 0.16% m-o-m, followed by semi-finish at 476,957 t (up 2.25%), scrap at 166,988 t (up 8%), and finished long at 11,981 rise 13.24% ,on the month.
The ores comprised 77% of overall imports followed by semi finished at 16%, scrap at 6%.
Country-wise shipments
In September, Taiwan remained the most-preferred export destination for China with total shipments at 6,889 t, up by 64%. Imports by Vietnam stood at 6,889 t, up 4%, and South korea at 6,077 t, up 22%.
On the other hand, shipments to Thailand were recorded at 5,513 t.
Imports – country wise
China has imported from chile at 806,180 t, a fall of 9% m-o-m, peru was the next at 683,170 t in sept a rise of 33%, followed by congo at 124,789 t, a rise of 33% m-o-m, steelmint records.
