Germany considers windfall tax on power generation

Germany is considering a tax on power generators’ windfall profits, as per reports. This could apply retrospectively to sales in the spot market and in the futures market from 1 Dec’22 to skim off extra profits of nuclear, lignite, renewables, oil, mine gas and waste power plant operators. There will be no tax on hard coal, natural gas and biomethane power generation or on power storage.
