South Africa: Transnet’s strike unsettled despite negotiations

South Africa’s major rail operator Transet’s workers have been on a strike for more than a week now. According to reports, on 12 Oct’22, Transnet proposed to increase employee salaries up to 5% and medical and housing benefits by 1%, but workers denied it. The government demands the strike to be resolved promptly, fearing a negative impact on not only the mining and manufacturing industries, but also the agriculture industry.
