South Africa: Transnet strike may impact Tshipi’s manganese exports

Transnet, which operates South Africa’s freight rail network and all of the country’s ports, declared force majeure on Thursday. Some Transnet workers turned down the company’s offer of a wage rise of 3-4%, saying it was below annual inflation rate. “Due to the strike, the Tshipi Borwa manganese mine may face problems with logistics and port operations,” said Jupiter, the mine’s owner.
