South Africa: Thungela warns of coal production halt as Transnet declares force majeure

South Africa’s logistics utility Transnet has declared force majeure at its ports as workers began a strike over wages. Thungela Resources has warned of production halt if the strike extends beyond a week, which may reduce its coal output by 300,000 t this year. However, with healthy stock levels at RBCT the impact on sales in Oct-Dec’22 may be limited, Thungela said in a statement.
