Nepal’s sponge iron imports hit all-time high in Sep’22

Nepal’s sponge iron imports from India rose by 36% m-o-m to 65,300 t in Sep’22, hitting an all-time high. Rising melting capacities resulted in a significant growth in imports.
Billets and flat steel imports fell by 46% and 17%, m-o-m respectively.
However, it is expected that Nepal’s billets and wire rods imports may rebound in coming months due to active purchase from Indonesia at competitive offers.
