SAIL-Bokaro Steel Plant held two auctions of steel grade pig iron on 21 Sep’22. The 4,000 t (2 rakes) auction received no bids whereas another auction for 150 t was booked at INR 44,500/t exw.SteelMint’s daily sponge iron, CDRI index was assessed stable at INR 34,000/tonne (t) exw-Rourkela on 21 September, 2022. The index remained constant because buyers refused to accept the previous higher offers. As a result, sellers not only had to lower prices but over yesterday’s offers.SteelMint’s daily steel billet index was assessed at INR 47,400/tonne (t) (+ INR 150/t) exw-Raipur on 21 September, 2022. But spot billet transactions fell nearly 50% to around 3,320 t on 21 September as against 7,120 t on 20 September. Even though the index rose, spot trades fell as the majority of buyers held back bookings on account of sufficient booking volumes seen yesterday. Moreover, steel prices declined in the northern region in the second half today.
