China: Tangshan aims to cut crude steel output by 8.3 mnt in CY’22

Tangshan, the country’s top steel-producing city in North China’s Hebei province has aimed to cut crude steel output by 8.26 million tonnes this year from that for 2021, market sources learned from a meeting among local government officials and steel mills in Tangshan on August 26.

Based on the latest target, Tangshan’s total crude steel output this year should not exceed 122.84 million tonnes against 131.11 million tonnes for 2021.

Over January-July, Tangshan produced 74.69 million tonnes of crude steel in total, up 0.7% on year, with daily output reaching 352,300 tonnes/day on average, Mysteel Global calculated based on the data from Tangshan Bureau of Statistics.

Accordingly, for the remainder of this year, Tangshan’s daily crude steel output should be less than 314,700 t/d. And specific steel production reduction targets will be confirmed and sent to each district and county of Tangshan in the near term.
