Indian Railways suspends plan to prioritise coal transportation to power sector

Indian Railways has put in abeyance the plan to transport imported coal from ports to power plants. The decision is in line with the power ministry’s recent directive to coal-fired power units to reduce the blending percentage of imported coal from 10% to 5%. Indian Railways prioritised coal transport to utilities since Apr’22 as stocks at the power plants had touched the lowest levels.
