Sangam group – JaiMahalaxmi TMT commence production in Maharashtra

Sangam Group has invested close to Rs 500 crore in its new steel venture – JaiMahalaxmi TMT. Sangam is one of the largest producers of polyester-viscose dyed yarn in the country and is worth Rs 2,500 crore. The company would produce TMT re-bars, used in the construction industry, using slit technology which allows a considerable increase in the production of rolling small-sized bars.

SteelMint spoke to Mr. Azhar Damanwala, Sangam Group, to know more about the plant and its future plans, following is the excerpt of the conversation:

Q. What is the per day and annual production capacity of the plant?

A. Presently, we will produce around 250-300 tons on daily basis with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons.

Q. Who is the target audience that company will focus in the beginning?

A. We will majorly focus in Mumbai and nearby surroundings due to our centrally located plant. In Mumbai infrastructure is in boom, we see good demand coming from the region.

Q. How you rate your brand JaiMahalaxmi TMT, Is it premium or non-premium?

A. Its premium brand, as we have adopted Silt technology to produce steel bar wherein at least two individual bars rolled at the same time, without re-rolling. This technology is used in most parts of the developed world.

Q. Could you elaborate slit technology?

A. It’s a Tempcore technology that is also being used by Tata Tiscon. Tempcore is the Best Process for the Production of High Quality Rebars, Costly alloying elements (Vanadium, Niobium) are replaced by low-cost water, in order to obtain from low C-Mn steel, concrete reinforcing bars with:

·         High mechanical properties (DIN 488 IVS, Fe500, BS4449-97…)

·         Excellent weldability

·         Excellent ductility and bendability

Q. What is the price today?

A. 12MM TMT is at Rs 35,200/MT (Basic) at which we are quoting but it will take 10-15 days to begin the dispatch and streamlining the process.
