Japan: Thermal coal imports rise by 4% m-o-m in June

Japan’s thermal coal imports recorded a 4% m-o-m rise to 9.9 mnt in June, customs data showed. Imports from Australia were the highest at 7 mnt, followed by Indonesia at 1.3 mnt last month. Shipments from Canada, and the USA were at 0.4 mnt each. Imports from Russia remained lower at 0.5 mnt. The government’s ban on Russian coal is set to begin from mid-August.
