Karnataka government to import 0.4 mnt of coal through CIL

Karnataka government has asked Coal India to import 0.4 mnt of Indonesian coal on its behalf, in response to the Union Coal ministry’s directive that has asked states to import 10% of their requirements in order to relieve pressure. Although not compulsory, the state is importing it as a preventive measure. Recently Coal India has awarded medium term tenders to an Indonesian firm to mitigate the coal shortage during rains.
