Australian 6000 kcal/kg NAR coal prices rose sharply to $429/t FOB in a 25,000 t deal concluded today. Flooding and heavy rains at Newcastle Port coupled with suspension of the main railway line connecting mines in New South Wales to Newcastle Port pushed up prices. The fore majeure declared by Russian gas supplier Gazprom on European customers has also created panic in the market, raising Australian coal prices.
