Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has issued express order to Tata Steel’s Sukinda Chromite mines, which was closed in May this year. However, the state government has refused to grant working permission to the mine as the company is yet to get Forest Clearance for it.
The decision was taken in the High Level Clearance Committee meeting held today headed by the Development Commissioner, Aditya Parhi.
“The government has decided to issue express order to Tata’s Chromite mine located at Sukinda in Jajpur district, but no working order will be issued as the mine is awaiting Forest Clearance. On the other hand, any kind of decision on 18 Iron ore and Manganese mines will be taken only after getting response from the miners,” said Deepak Mohanty, Director of mines, Odisha.
Forest clearance of Tata’s Sukinda Chromite mines was expired in January last year, but the mine was operating under temporary work permit. However, the company has to stop operation at the mines in May this year after the Supreme Court order on second and subsequent renewal of mining lease. Now, the company has to wait for Forest Clearance to start operation.
