Manganese alloys imports into the US decreased by 67% m-o-m to 35,864 tonnes in May 2022 against 107,288 t in April 2022. Higher inventory levels in the domestic market contributed to the decrease in imports.
Ferro manganese
Ferro manganese imports into the US decreased by 55% m-o-m in May 2022 to 19,539 t against 43,174 t in April 2022. Imports of ferro manganese decreased due to a high domestic stock-holding level. However, on a yearly basis, ferro manganese imports were up 11% to 137,551 t from January to May, 2022. Major exporting countries for the US were Malaysia with 9,175 t, up by 9% m-o-m, followed by Norway with 5,200 t, up by a whopping 269% and South Korea, with 4,200 t.
Silico manganese
Silico manganese imports dropped sharply by 75% m-o-m to 16,324 t in May 2022 against 64,115 t in April 2022. However, on a yearly basis, imports increased by 65% to 180,516 t from January-May, 2022. Major exporting countries were Georgia with 1,240 t, down by 92% m-o-m followed by Malaysia with 718 t, down 72%. Norway exported 4,144 t, up 39% and Mexico, 3,182 t, up 21%.
