Bhubaneswar: Tata Steel is planning to expand its Ferro Manganese Capacity at its Joda plant from existing 0.0504 million tonnes to 0.06 million tonnes. In addition to the capacity expansion of the Ferro manganese plant the company is also setting up a 0.06 Sillico Manganese plant and 0.05 mtpa sinter plant near the plant site. The company has recently completed the public hearing for the project at Joda.
Tata Steel Limited (TSL) has been in the Ferro Manganese business for last 54 years. Ferro Alloy Plant (FAP) at Joda was commissioned in 1957 to cater to the Manganese alloy requirements of Tata Steel works at Jamshedpur. Currently, Tata Steel is sourcing its entire requirement of Ferro Manganese from captive plant. It has manganese ore leases in the Joda (Keonjhar) and Malda (Sundargarh) area, in the State of Odisha. The plant is presently operating with 1 X 9 MVA and 1 X 15 MVA Submerged Arc Furnace & producing 0.0504 MTPA Fe-Mn.
The Estimated Project Cost is INR 1.86 billion, which includes expansion of existing Ferro Manganese Plant, with addition of Silico Manganese Plant and Sinter Plant.
