India: Coal output from allocated blocks records substantial growth in Q1FY23

India’s coal production from captive and commercial blocks has increased 79% y-o-y to 27.7 mnt in the first quarter of FY23. These blocks were allocated to the interested parties to improve domestic coal availability, thereby, reducing the dependency on Coal India. At present, a total of 36 blocks are operational. The Ministry of Coal has informed that 12 additional blocks will start production this fiscal year.
