China has initiated trial operations at its largest coal-based ethanol project with an annual output of 500,000 tonnes in Shaanxi province. The project uses coal as raw material to produce ethanol and will require 1.5 mnt of coal annually. The plant will save 1.5 mn t of bio-ethanol raw grain/year used a raw material to produce ethanol and also promote high-quality utilisation of coal in future.
