Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) is to commission a 4 million ton Iron ore Pellet plant at Barbil (Odisha), by September this year, at an total investment of Rs 750 crore.
A 4.5 million ton Pellet plant is already operational at Barbil presently, for supplying it to its Raigarh plant and for sales in domestic market.
A senior JSPL official told SteelMint, “Pellets are going to be our basic raw material.
We have to upgrade and secure our raw material supply source for the steel making volumes being increased”.
By 2016, another 7 million ton Pellet making plant is to be commissioned at Angul (Odisha) at an investment of 1200 crore.
A total of 2,000 crore of investment is to take place for the above mentioned additional capacity of 11 million tons for Pellet manufacturing.
The company's total Pellet production capacity will touch 15 million tons by 2016 and will be an alternative source of raw material.
It will also help if there is any delay in getting captive iron ore mines for its upcoming 6 million ton steel project at Angul.
In a couple of months, its Steel Making Shop (SMS) is to be commissioned at an investment of Rs 30,000 crore for 6 mt steel and 800 MW power project.
Also, to power its steel making operations, Nation's first-ever coal gasification unit is to be commissioned by JSPL.
