South Asia: Imported scrap offers up on renewed buying interest

South Asia’s imported scrap buyers remained active in booking containerised scrap even after prices picked up in the market. Pakistani buyers secured material of Europe origin. Trading activities in Bangladesh are still dull, due to limited demand from steel mills amid heavy rainfall and flood in some areas of the country which have affected them severely.

  • Around 1,000 tonnes (t) of shredded scrap was booked at $430/t, while 500 t of the same material was traded at $425/t CFR, Qasim basis. SteelMint’s assessment of UK-origin shredded scrap stands at $430/t CFR Qasim, a slight increase of $5/t against last week’s closing.
  • As per SteelMint’s assessment, current price of HMS 1 stands at $455-460/t CFR Nhava Sheva, significantly up by $20/t against last week-end.
  • SteelMint’s assessment for UK-origin shredded scrap stands at $455-460/t CFR Bangladesh, unchanged against last week.
