France to reopen coal-fired power plant amid lower Russian gas supply

With Russia cutting LNG supplies to Europe, France is considering reopening a 600 MW coal-fired power plant that was decommissioned earlier this year. The closedown of 600-MW Emile Huchet power plant in Saint-Avold had left another facility in Cordemais as the country’s only remaining coal-fired station. France generates about two-thirds of its electricity at nuclear power plants, with coal typically accounting for less than 1% of the mix.
