India’s coking coal production increased by 15% y-o-y to 51.7 mnt in FY22 against 44.8 mnt in FY21, as per data released by the coal ministry. In FY22, coking coal output accounted for a mere 7% of the total coal production.
The ministry has set a target of 140 mnt of coking coal production by FY30 and to achieve this, several measures are being taken including auction of new blocks, identification of discontinued mines for sale and setting up of 9 new washeries.
