South Asia’s imported scrap market turned active again as prices fell further in both containers and bulk material segments. Indian and Bangladeshi mills registered bulk bookings, while Pakistan continued to book containerised scrap.
Recent deals
- A total of 1,000 tonnes (t) of shredded in containers from Europe were booked at $430/t, CFR Nhava Sheva. In another round of deals, around 1,000 t of HMS of Europe origin traded at $400/t, CFR Chennai.
- In Pakistan, almost 2,200 t of shredded scrap from Europe was concluded at $420-430/t, CFR Qasim basis.
- Bulk cargo containing 40,000 t of shredded scrap has been booked from the US. The cargo was booked at around $400/t CFR Chennai.
- A mill booked one US-origin bulk cargo a couple of days back which comprised 32,000 t of mixed material, in which HMS was booked at $390/t CFR Bangladesh.

SteelMint’s assessment for UK-origin shredded scrap stands at these prices:
- $435/t CFR Nhava Sheva, unchanged compared to yesterday.
- $460-465/t CFR Bangladesh, down by $2/t d-o-d.
- $425/t CFR Qasim, down by $5-10/t d-o-d.
