Chile: Miners launch strike at copper giant Codelco

Workers at Chilean state-owned mining giant Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, launched a major strike on 22 Jun’22 to protest the closure of a smelter over environmental issues. The Copper Workers Federation said the strike will cost Codelco, which produces around 8% of the world’s copper amounting to 10-15% of Chile’s GDP, SteelMint learnt from sources.
