Flat steel prices in India have remained firm from past few
weeks due to weak demand and liquidity crunch in the market.
Prices of Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) of size 2.5MM, width 1250MM (including
ED, taxes extra) are-
Delhi: 39700
Ludhiana: 39700
Hyderabad: 41000
Ahmedabad: 40500-41000
Kolkata: 41000 (Inclusive of ED and VAT)
Market for flat steel is expected to remain range bound in
the near term due to the closure of financial year and festival of colours Holi, said a trader based in Ahmedabad. However a trader based in Kolkata is of
opinion that demand for flat steel is expected to rise with rise in government
projects related to infrastructure.
Quantity of Imported Hot Rolled Coil (HR Ch-7208) in the
month of January was 3,67,300 metric tons (MT), whereas in February it was around 2,41,400 MT
and in March it reached to 1,40,800 (till March 18,2013). Prices in domestic market
is the major reason for decline in imports, according to market participants currently
domestic material looks more attractive compared to imported due to the price and
quality offered by the domestic players (SAIL, TATA, ESSAR).
