Australia: BHP to close down New South Wales coal mine by 2030

Mining giant BHP is set to initiate closure of operations at its largest coal mine at Mt Arthur in New South Wales, Australia, in 2030 after it failed to find a buyer, reports indicated. The mine has approval to operate until 2026, but BHP is set to extend the deadline till 2030. The opencast coal mine, primarily dependant on trucks for disptches, sees extraction of coal of up to 32 mnt per annum.
