Odisha’s annual Iron ore production cap remain unchanged at 57 MnT.
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to maintain the cap on annual Iron ore production for non captive mines at Joda Mining circle at 44 MnT and 13 MnT at Koida mining circle. The government will allow 1,100 trips of Iron ore per day from Joda to Paradip.
The decision was taken in the state level task force meeting headed by Odisha Chief Secretary, G.C Pati on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Steel & Mines Secretary, G Srinivas, Director of Mines, Deepak Mohanty and other senior officials.
The task force has also decided to form another State Level Enforcement Squad to track and control mining theft. The state already has such squads. On the other hand, local police will be empowered to take action against mining theft.
It has also been decided to prepare DGPS maps of all mines by Jun’15. Currently, only 39 mines have DGPS map and DGPS maps of another 148 mines will be prepared by June’15, which will be beneficial to detect the lease boundaries of the mines.
The task force has also decided to increase Iron ore production of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), State Director of Mines, Deepak Mohanty said.
On mining renewal he said, the state government has decided to expedite the mining renewal cases. The mines that are awaiting 1st renewal will be allowed to continue operation for maximum years. However, no mines will be allowed to operate under second and subsequent renewal unless they get renewal order.

It is expected that India’s biggest Iron ore producing state, Odisha’s production will fall to 60 MnT this fiscal year ending March owing to a court shutdown of mines pending their licence renewals.
