Taiwan: Coal imports rise 32% in May on soaring power demand

With the sharp rise in power demand, Taiwan’s thermal coal imports have recorded a 32% m-o-m rise to 6.7 mnt in May’22, customs data showed. Shipments from Australia were the highest at 3.7 mnt last month followed by Indonesia at 1.9 mnt. Coal imports from Russia were lower at 0.7 mnt as Taiwan government is set to close down its imports from the former in the upcoming month surrounding its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
